I was thrilled with how small this camera is. It fits in your hand as if it were a half full 12 oz. can of soda. It’s very light, but the fortunately the image stabilization makes it shoot like it was a heavier camera.

I ran into an issue with iMovie ’07 (part of Apple’s iLife ’08) that caused the screen to stretch wider, making people look fat. This will likely be resolved soon by Apple, and for now I’ve taken to using the 1440 X 1080 resolution which imports just fine.

I’ve also fitted a 37mm mount size aftermarket wide angle lens which really helps for shooting indoors. Some have complained that the video is a bit more grainy while indoors and in darker conditions than the HD1, but I can’t complain.

So far, the battery life seems to run an hour and 10 minutes, which is better than the 55 minutes it’s rated for.

This camera does not include an SD card, so you’ll want to pick up a 4GB (40 minutes) or 8 GB (80 minutes) card…

Best that’s out there right now., November 27, 2007

This is the first camcorder I have bought in a while. My last one was a Canon MiniDV that did progressive frame shooting. I’ve been researching for months on and off and following the progress of HD camcorders.

I personally love this camera, there are only a few, mute things about this camera that I miss.

Pros:

– It’s small and very light weight; almost too light. I *almost* found myself wishing it were a little heavier to make it easier to hold the camera steady. But it’s great like it is.

– The picture quality is great. Having had a progressive scan camcorder before, I notice the interlacing, but it’s no where near as bad as the MiniDV camcorder I had before that did interlacing. There is a slight grain to the picture in low light, but this is to be expected, and after reading several reviews about how “horrible” the low light was, I thought it was great. Camera Is Great…If You’re Ready, September 26, 2007

I had been waiting for my SD5 to ship from Amazon, but I saw the camera at Circuit City in stock and less so I decided to just get it there.

The camera feels great in your hands. It is small and light, but even in my large hands it feels stable. I like that the battery is now inside of the camera and not attached to the back. This lets the center of gravity sit right there on your hand.

The LCD screen looks good, though a little pixelated in darker rooms.

I brought the camera out yesterday to go for a walk with my infant son. Even while walking and trying to film my son the image was quite stable.

One piece of warning, if you use this camera with a Mac be sure to have a large internal drive or get an external one. With the new iMovie 08, it works with the AVCHD wonderfully but when it imports it converts it to AIC. The video still looks great and they are easy to work with, but they files are quite big. GREAT DEAL!!.., April 27, 2011

The HDC-SDT750 [MINUS THE 3D LENS CONVERTER] is basically the Panasonic TM700 minus the built in 32gb hard drive which the TM700 features. All of the specs and benchmarks for performance are identical. This camera is loaded with respectable Prosumer features. I invite you to search online and compare the two. The divided difference.. The SDT750 requires an SD card. A 32gb SDHC card can be purchased almost anywhere for about . With all the trouble in Japan these prices may not get any better. THIS CAMERA IS WORTHY OF SERIOUS CONSIDERATION.

great camera great price, August 16, 2011

I bought this camera off of Amazon, sold from Samy’s Cameras. I am very impressed with the quality of the video this camera records. It has a ton of features which are comparable to Panasonic’s best camcorders, such as mic and headphone input, electronic viewfinder (which is awesome), very good Leica lens and their 3MOS system. I shopped around based on consumer reports reviews and this was their 3rd highest rated camcorder out of 74 tested, with only two Canon models being higher, but those had relatively short battery lives (81 mins vs this with 106 mins). It has so many more great features that I won’t bother listing them all, but a feature that enhances low light recording makes for very impressive low light video. The price was 0 for the camera when I bought it, which I consider a great deal b/c that included the 3D Lens. I am selling the 3D lens on Amazon, brand new for 9.99 if you are interested. Just Right for My Use, May 29, 2010

I bought this dual camera because i am going on a cruise, and I did not want to be burdened by a lot of equipment.

So far I have used it to take both Hi Definition movies and still pictures.

The results are good even when viewed on a 40 in 1080i TV.

I have 16 GB card so i can record up to 2 hours of video or over 4000 still images.

Please note that the resolution can be reduced by the user.

CONS

Still pictures taken at short distances( Under six feet) show fish eye distortions. This can be corrected by software such as Photoshop Elements.

Battery life could be better. It appears to be limited close to 1 hour with the supplied 700 MAH battery.

Does not work as a PC Camera with the Mac.

No supplied software.

A decent economy camcorder, June 1, 2010

I purchased the VPC-CG20 two months ago at Radio Shack. I was looking for an alternative to the “Flip” camera at about the same price.

PROS

Good digital image stabilization at normal focus. This was the main selling point: Flip cameras provide no image stabilization, so slight shaking of the hand, especially when panning, is a problem. The Sanyo camera will give you better quality video at a similar price.

CONS

Image stabilization, while good at normal focus, is ineffective when you use the digial zoom (up to 5x), so videos will appear very shaky even with slight movement. The camera will have to be stabilized on a tripod if you’re using the zoom feature.

If you’re a novice (as I am), Sanyo xacti cameras will require a bit of a learning curve. This is why the Flip line of camcorders is so appealing: they come with their own editing software and are basically plug-and-play.

A few thoughts on Sanyo CG20, July 2, 2010

I originally bought the Sanyo VPC CG10 after reading a number of sterling reviews on Amazon, notably by Rolla Gravett and Juan. The camera is fantastic. I already owned a Flip MinoHD, but I was disappointed by its limitations–there are no settings to speak of you can play with, and of course, it is not a still camera. My goal was to find a compact camera which would take both high definition video and take high quality still photos with a built in flash. The CG10 did all of that. When Sanyo released the CG20, the main improvement was going from 30 fps 720p video to 60 fps 1080p video. Now that I have both cameras I am a little disappointed with the 1080 video. As recommended by others, I am using a class 6 SDHC card. The videos I have taken in the highest HD (1080) are obviously much larger files, but they don’t seem to play quite right with Quicktime. I am working on a very new iMac. When I play the 1080 videos in Quicktime there seems to be some jitter and unsteadiness…

You get what you pay for, January 11, 2011

I don’t think that some people realize that an infrared camera can cost thousands of dollars. For 0 bucks you get a camcorder that does have real infrared night vision(not cheap, misleading, night shot). You can see about 2 meters in front of you, which is very good. Like I said before if you expect your camcorders to be like the ones on TV, expect to spend thousands of dollars. Not to mention you get all kinds of extra stuff. I am very happy with my camcorder. It is compact and very easy to use.

Very Pleased, February 8, 2011

I was extremely pleased with my purchase. For 200$ this is a steal in my opinion. The camcorder is small and very nice. The night vision works great and with an extra ir light its amazing. My only problem that kept me from giving it a 5 star was the audio when you play back on the camera its not that loud even with vol up all the way. Other than that its great. Plus you get a ton of accessorizes. I mini tripod and a heavy duty one that can extend up to 4 feet, a carrying case, and much more. Great deal and buy

i think this product is well worth 5 stars. you will not find a better deal than this. Im the lead investigator/case manager at Green’s Paranormal Society and this is my first video camera kit that ive got and im blown away by it. i love this camcorder, its a must have for them “youtube moments” youd came across in a day

Sure, it’s not perfect, but for the price, you simply cannot beat this. Pick up a couple of 8GB memorycards and you are good to go (they are cheap!).

Pluses:

-Optical Image Stabilizer

-HD!!!! (1920x1080i) – Good Quality in daylight/normal light indoors

-SDHC cards (cheap and high capacity)

-DVD burner if you want to make Standard Def captures and burn for regular dvd playback. (can also be used to store HD content, but needs special players for playback)

-Battery Capacity is very good

-Nice LCD Screen

-Prerec, if activated, it continously records the last 3 seconds, so when you hit record, it will remember and store the previous 3 seconds as well. Good if you are a bit slow to start recording..

Minuses:

-A bit large and clumsy (partly due to inclusion of dvd burner and large capacity battery!)

-Noisy picture in low light situations

A good HD camcorder at a great price!, June 9, 2008

Well worth the price and then some. I’m tempted to give it 5 stars due to price but the low light picture is not good enough and AVCHD is too annoying at this time.

Pros:

- HD Camcorder with 3 CCD and O.I.S. (prevents blurry images)

- 2 Good and inexpensive media options (mini DVD and SDHC)

- AVCHD Should have a long future ahead with Blu-Ray winning the HD war

- Easy to use

- All the features I need and more

- Crisp vivid footage outside and in bright lighting

- Price (About half that of similar camcorders)

Cons

- Not the best HD image in low to standard indoor situations (Even in low light it is much better than my standard def camcorder but not ‘crisp’)

- Not as ‘cute’ as some other smaller camcorders

- AVCHD is all but impossible to edit easily with today’s h/w and s/w. (I anticipate this will get better)

Its What you need!!, March 22, 2008

I have been playing with this camcorder for a day and I am impressed!! The image stabilizer makes my shots look like the camera was on a mount. After a few sec. of playing around with it or a few min. of reading the manual its a sinch to use. Very user friendly and definatly worth the money. I have previewed many other camcorders and this fits the bill.

The only down side is you have to buy SD cards and Miny disks. If it had an internal hard drive It would be an A++ But then again the price would be alot higher and there would be a lot of noise. This thing is SILENT! Its small and there are plenty of thing you can buy to go along with it. For the price and A- rating you wont beet it!! PS.Get the 8GB card with it. You are going to buy it any way so why wate?
